Duramax ticking noise.

This condition has been present in diesel engines produced for the last 20 or more years. The noise usually is most noticeable at the rear of the driver's side front wheel well. After replacing Every Pulley including A/C Clutch Assembly it turned out to be the Serpentine Belt...who knew!

My truck is right at 200,00 miles with all original drivetrain components. It has started making a clicking/ticking sound that can be heard in the cab pretty good and once window is rolled down, it is even louder. It sounds like it is coming from the rear end or bed area. I know it’s an old thread, but the L5P in the 2020 is the noisiest, most unpleasant Duramax to date. The thumping, ticking, screeching, and what I’m assuming is injector knock, is almost Unbearable. Been in 3 different 2020’s and besides when mine melted down a dpf, I’ve yet to hear a quieter Dmax from factory.

lb7s are notorious for making ticking noises, it has to do with the tolerance in the engine.
